Volunteers donate blood, educate community

LVAC members, from left, Amanda Popiolkowski, Polly Thoman, Mark Reinhard, Nick Barton and Bob Kelly, and Thoman's son Jacob were on hand.

Five LVAC members performed blood pressure checks and handed out first aid information during a blood drive on Jan. 16 at a local business.

Sixteen people — including four LVAC members — donated blood to Upstate New York Transplant Services (UNYTS) during a drive at Baby’s Sweet Beginnings Maternity and Breast Feeding center, which is owned and operated by LVAC dispatcher Polly Thoman.

“LVAC is a vital educational tool in our community,” Thoman said. “Lancaster is very lucky to have an organization such as LVAC.”

Samara Hutcheson, owner of SHPortraits, shot newborn portraits with donations benefiting Ronald McDonald House.
